Drafting through the horrors
And a last minute donation thing
Hi Merry Readers,
Perhaps that’s a presumptuous title for readers at this point, but it’s what I started with and I’ll keep going. First off, I’m terrible at getting around to doing anything these days, but I’m telling you now. I’ve joined Romance for Minnesota, an event aimed at raising donations for the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund in response to the rising events happening in Minnesota.
How does it work? Donate to Immigrant Rapid Response Fund, fill out Romance for Minnesota’s entry form, and find out tomorrow (Sunday, Feb 1) if you won one of hundreds of really exciting prizes. Seriously, I looked over the list and it’s mostly signed paperbacks by some really exciting authors like Danica Nava, Alexandra Vast, and Sonali Dev, not to mention some amazing sapphic authors like Kelly Farmer, Rebekah Faubion, and Jenny Lane. A signed copy of Sunsets & Other Dangerous Things is also in the running.
And because I’m terrible at getting around to things, this event ends by the end of the day today (Saturday, Jan 31), so I guess enter now or don’t worry about saving it for later. Some fun Dani Trivia: I grew up in the rural midwest. Not Minnesota, but I’ve spent a lot of time there and I’m heartbroken seeing what’s happening and also moved by the level of resistance and organization that’s gone into protecting neighbors. This summer will be my ten year anniversary of moving to New York City. I know ICE is here already, and while I wish we wouldn’t need it, I hope we can use the examples MN has set to support each other and resist falling further into fascism.
I know I should write more often, because I’m so behind on updating on my life, but I don’t want to overload this message. So maybe I’ll check back in next month with more updates on what I’m writing and what I’ve been up to this past year after finishing my first year as a published author. But I'll give one quick update.
If you’re in the area, I’m participating in a free-to-attend book event in Mendham, NJ on February 21 called Romance Your Shelf. It will be my third in person book event and probably last one for a bit while I buckle down and draft some more books. It will also be my first time doing a reading, so if anyone has any segments to recommend to me I’m all ears. Again the event is free. I won’t be the only author there so plenty of new people to meet. And it goes from noon to 4 with me reading between 3 and 3:30pm.
I hope you’re all doing ok, and I’ll try to do better about checking in again next month.
Best,
Dani
